Hornets and Saints: Parallel Lives?

The history of New Orleans is unfortunately effected hurricane Katrina. Three years ago, the city was destroyed, lot of people died, and lost everything. At one stage, sport is not important comparing with these disaster; nevertheless, the healing power of sports can push a city to rebuild itself.

In 2006, the Saints returned to New Orleans. The atmosphere, the momentum and the emotions led the team to an unbelievable season. The Saints advanced to the NFC Championship game, and helped the city to believe in the rebirth. A young although talented group of players represented an example for the community and head coach Sean Payton was named AP NFL Coach of the year.

Will Al Harrington Be Swapped for Jamaal Tinsley?

It's no secret the Warriors are in desperate need of backcourt relief after Monta Ellis' injury.  This is evidenced by general manager Chris Mullin flying out to Chicago to view comeback hopeful Shaun Livingston in a private workout session.

Midway across the States, the Indiana Pacers are also in need of a few materials, primarily three-point shooting and an athletic power forward.

Taking these two requirements into account, I created a trade that both teams could benefit from.

Memphis Building a Team For The Future

When the Memphis Grizzlies traded Pau Gasol before last year’s trading deadline, it appeared that they were going to be a lottery team for awhile.

That still might happen, but they aren’t going to be a complete bore this season.

The Grizzlies are at least making an attempt at becoming a serious team this season with some of their activity this year. First they pretty much traded Mike Miller and Kevin Love for O.J. Mayo.

Indiana Pacers: Time to Rebuild

A state where basketball legend is built around stories like the Hoosiers one; a state where Friday night hoops are as important as government issues; a state capital, where the team has not won the NBA title yet; and it seems that the upcoming season won’t bring the first title to the Conseco Fieldhouse.

After trading Jermaine O’Neal to the Raptors, the Pacers are officially under rebuilding at full terms. They tried to postpone this situation during the previous seasons; nevertheless, the O’Neal’s move finally opens a new way at Indiana.

OKC Announces Team Name, Thunder

I’m going to step outside of my third-person, journalistic voice for a second to express my personal grief and mourning over the loss of the Seattle Supersonics. Unless you’ve lived under a rock, you’ve undoubtedly heard about the Sonics move to Oklahoma City.  The team announced just yesterday that the new team mascot will be the Thunder, and the new team colors will be blue, red and orange.

I am a Seattle native and have lived in western Washington State my entire life.  Those who know me know I’ve been a diehard Sonics fan since childhood and seeing them dissipate the way they have leaves me with a sense of bitterness.

It’s somewhat sickening that the NBA didn’t fight for a franchise of 41 years.  It’s even more disappointing that the league all but through the city under a bus in the process.

Thunder Will Create Excitement, But Fans Must Have Patience With Young Team

The Oklahoma City franchise has officially been named the Thunder and finally the three-year quest from the NBA to get a team to Oklahoma is complete. Getting a team in Oklahoma City was the No. 1 priority on Commissioner David Stern’s agenda after the New Orleans Hornets moved there because of Hurricane Katrina.

The fans were much more supportive for the Hornets than anyone could have imagined and Stern’s light-bulb started clicking. If the fans can support some NBA team that isn’t even theirs better than the city that it currently belongs to, then Oklahoma City should sell out with its own team.

This team should definitely test that theory.

2008-2009 Southeast Division Preview

The Southeast Division is chock full of teams that have been considered underachievers in the past few seasons—the Washington Wizards can’t seem to progress in the playoffs; the Charlotte Bobcats can’t seem to make adequate steps toward the playoffs; and the Atlanta Hawks don’t seem to know hot to make its deep, talented roster most effective.  Yet, that stigma may soon be a thing of the past.
