Around the NBA: August 15th

The NBA off-season is still in full swing, and even though you are probably completely engrossed in Michael Phelps run for eight gold medals (the 4x100 was amazing) or the run for redemption for USA Basketball (they took an easy win against Greece).

However, the NBA is still around, and even though you may not notice it, there is still plenty of news for you to be keeping track of over the past few days. Here is a rundown of the NBA news you may have looked over.

Cleveland, Milwaukee, and Oklahoma City Agree to Six-Player Trade

The move is biggest for the Cavaliers, who acquire a good scorer in Mo Williams.  Williams is likely to come in and start and will take big pressure off of LeBron James.

"Watching from afar with LeBron, he handles the ball a lot," Williams said. "I think that I can take a load off of him handling the ball at times. He's a guy that kind of sets his teammates up a lot. I think I can relieve him from that. That will help him as far as being a little fresher at the end of the season."

This also complicates things for Delonte West, a restricted free agent.  It now looks like his time in Cleveland are over.

Former NBA Player Arrested on for sex with a Minor

Vincent Askew played played for eight teams over nine seasons with teams like the 76ers and the now defunct Seattle Supersonics.

Now, Askew is making headlines for lying to a 16-year-old girl and having sex with her.  He allegedly told her that he was trying to recruit her to go to a different high-school where he was attempting to get a coaching job.  They then met in a hotel room and, well, you know how the rest of that goes.  Askew is 43-years old.

I thought it was easy for basketball players to, um, get women.

Brandon Roy to have Knee Surgery

Brandon Roy needs to have arthroscopic knee surgery and will have to sit out the next one-to-two months.  This comes at a time when Greg Oden is finally ready to play basketball.

Roy is entering his third season in the NBA, and is the 2006-07 recipient of the Rookie of the Year Award.  In his first season with the Blazers, he improved the team by 11 games.  In his sophomore season, he improved the team by nine wins.

Over his two season, Roy averaged 18.1 ppg and 5 assists per game.

Spanish National Team Catches Heat for Racial Photo

The Spanish National team, which boasts players like Pau Gasol and Jose Calderon, is getting a lot of negative feedback from a picture where they are all pushing back their eyes to make it look like they are Asian.

"We felt it was something appropriate, and that it would be interpreted as an affectionate gesture," Calderon wrote on his ElMundo.es blog.

Most people are saying that the gesture is racist and insensitive to people of Asian decent.

"It was something like supposed to be funny or something but never offensive in any way," said Gasol. "I'm sorry if anybody thought or took it the wrong way and thought that it was offensive."
