NBA Predictions: Most Improved Player

Every year in the NBA, a young player is selected to be the Most Improved Player, or the MIP.  This player must be a player that is still in the infancy of his NBA career and have a breakout year.

He can be somebody who was already good and then made great strides, or somebody who finally got a chance to start and played amazingly.

Here are five players who could take the Most Improved Player award this season.

5. LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland Trailblazers

He is going to be more of a go-to guy this season and with Greg Oden coming back, he is going to have someone to take pressure off of him inside.  This should allow him multiple open looks at the basket that he wasn't able to get this season.  I wouldn't be surprised if he was able to up himself over 20 ppg this season.

4. Jason Maxiell, Detroit Pistons

He is going to get a lot of time in and with the way the Pistons are trying to shake up their team, Maxiell could be their breath of fresh air.  Expect him to surprise a lot of players who were expecting to go after Rasheed Wallace and Chancey Billups.

3. Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics

He was a surprising part of the post-season Celtics, and if he can keep up his production all season, he can make huge strides in the eyes of the NBA elite.  It also helps that he has guys like Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce to open up the floor.

2. Andray Blatche, Washington Wizards

With all the pressure going to guys like Antwan Jamison, Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler, Blatche could sneak inside and have a big year.  Expect a lot of defenses to keep their best defenders always looking to the perimeter which should let Blatche have some good inside shots.

1. Ronnie Brewer, Utah Jazz

Brewer is likely to become the full-time starter this season, and, with the help of Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer, Brewer could get a lot of open looks at the basket this season.  He is the most poised because he also has a great passer to get him the ball whenever he is open, so there should be very few missed opportunities.

I agree with Brewer being there, I forgot about him on my list, but I think he will tear it up next season.
