LeBron James- On His Way to New York? Where Will He Place His Legacy?

While LeBron James has busted on the scene as a premiere NBA player, rumors swirl about his placement after the 2008-2009 season. Many experts say there is no way he will end up back in Cleveland, and is destined for New York City to play for the Knicks. If he bolts his hometown of Cleveland, where will that put his legacy as a NBA player, and as a legend in the state of Ohio?

LeBron, who will turn 24 in December, is Mr. Ohio. There is no doubt, along with Jerry Springer, who else in the state has made such a splash. The 6’8, 240lbs. superstar born in Akron, and played his high school ball in Ohio, has been the guy all youngsters look to when looking at professional superstars. James, in five complete seasons in the NBA has only missed a total 19 games. In this day in age, that is durability at its finest. James has already amassed 10000 career points, becoming one of the youngest players ever to achieve that feat. He also has garnered over 2500 rebounds, and dished out 2500 assists. The 2007 season was one of his finest, leading a cast of nobodies to the NBA finals, only to fall short to San Antonio.

What happens when he leaves Cleveland for New York? New York is the media frenzy capital of the world. He is already getting plenty of buzz in Cleveland, but can the young, calm James handle the hustle and bustle of NYC? How will the Cleveland fans respond to LBJ spurning his home state and heading for the big money of New York? How will the Cavaliers survive without King James? They won’t! The Cleveland Cavaliers MUST sign LeBron James. If they don’t their franchise will forever be in shambles. LeBron James is THE face of the Cleveland Cavaliers. They are already having a hard enough time signing free agents to come play, who is going to want to play in Cleveland with a bunch of nobodies, and NO LeBron James? The Cavs organization, and the city of Cleveland must do whatever it takes to keep him there.

For the immediate future, LeBron needs some help. His cast of 2007-2008 simply couldn’t do enough to help LBJ’s 30 points a game. The first look in this off-season was at James Posey. The latest rumor is the Cavs are not forking up enough money to get Posey. First of all, Posey is not that much of an addition anyways, yes, he’s good, but not someone to lead the Cavs over the top in the East, and they STILL can’t harness him to Cleveland?

Come on Cavs! If you want a winner, you are going to have to show it! SHOW ME THE MONEY!

Daniel Gibson and Delonte West are both free agents, and the Cavs claim they want to re-sign both. That’s fine, both are adequate NBA players, but they also have not been able to offer the correct dollar amount to real either of them in. What happens if you lose two of your guards, and you don’t dish out the money for a top of the line guy? Big trouble could be brewing in Cleveland. A couple free agents the Cavs have been talking about are Darius Miles, and Devin Brown. Neither of these guys will put the Cavs over the top.

What was wrong with Elton Brand, or Baron Davis? Yes, both will cost you some money, but teamed with LeBron, are you serious? Cavs would become automatic contenders in the East. Even Corey Maggette would have been worth an offer, but the Cavs decided to do something else- offer money to NONE of them.

While we all know where LeBron James stands in his current NBA status- ELITE, ELITE, and ELITE. His future is in question. There is no doubt, wherever he ends up, he will go down as one of the best players to ever play, but where he plays is another question, and the response of the Cleveland-ites is another huge question. Only time will tell, but for now, Cleveland better start working on keep LBJ in town, for a LONG time!
