![]() - Expect a good season from Chicago Bulls’ Guard Ben Gordon. He’ll be playing for a contract and new Point Guard Derrick Rose is more of a passer/creator than Kirk Hinrich was which means more open looks for Gordon. - The Charlotte Bobcats situation is interesting. Raymond Felton is not Coach Larry Brown’s type of point, which might be why he drafted D.J. Augustin. In addition, Jared Dudley might be too much like Gerald Wallace to justify holding onto. Some movement in Charlotte may be in the works this season. - The Detroit Pistons lost a lot of steam when they swapped Larry Brown with Flip Saunders a few seasons ago. Saunders is not the defensive coach the Pistons are set up to play under, and that really showed in later rounds of the playoffs in that time. New Coach Michael Curry has a similar mindset as Larry Brown, so anticipating a great season for the Pistons is not such a far-fetched idea. - The Denver Nuggets are not a very good perimeter defensive team. Carmelo Anthony’s defense is sketchy, and some accuse Allen Iverson of taking too many gambles. Losing Marcus Camby, one of the league’s best help defenders, will not be an easy thing to overcome. Nene Hilario and Kenyon Martin are not suitable replacements, and are rarely healthy for that matter. The Nuggets might have traded their way out of the playoffs. - Baron Davis will be ‘the man’ in Clipperland, but the big question will be how well he adjusts under the more restrictive system of Mike Dunleavy. Don Nelson tends to bring the most out of point guards, because he gives them tremendous freedom. Davis won’t have that luxury anymore. - Everyone’s talking about the Lakers’ frontline of Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom. That, and some guy named Kobe Bryant. Yet, the big story out of LA might be up-and-comer Jordan Farmar, who seems very close to taking the starting point guard role permanently over Derek Fisher. - Offensively, the inside duo of Kevin Love and Al Jefferson should make Minnesota Timberwolves fans proud. However, they don’t seem to compliment each other very well at the defensive end. Comments

Minnesota

I think Minnesota has loads of talent, though I think they still need to make some moves. I am a big fan of Jefferson and Love, but I'm still skeptical they can work together defensively. That's an experiment worth waiting on, though, given the talent of those two. I don't think Foye's a star in this league like a lot of people hope he'll be. If I'm Minnesota, I'd wait for him to get on a hot streak and then shop him for something a bit more promising. I know not everyone will agree with me on that, and of course they won't, but I'm not a big believer in him. He may make me eat my words.

The Wolves will be a lottery team again this season, but they won't be the worst team by far and will be fun to watch. A starting lineup of Kevin Love, Al Jefferson, Mike Miller, Randy Foye and either Ryan Gomes, Rashard McCants or another candidate could make a bit of noise. report abuse

What, No raptors talk?

I know they are in Canada but come on, surely they desrve a mention. I know there is a whole article on the J.O. trade but no expectations.

Today David Aldridge said he believed that the Pistons were gearing up to go after C.B.4 in 2010, and part of his argument was that he doesn't get the kind of recognition he could if he played in the U.S. This is true but if the raps were to win it all (I know, tall order!) then they may be taken more seriously. But what do I know, I am a Spaniard who lives in South Korea! By the way with you all the way Phil, but now it should be interesting to see what Motown does with A.I. on the sheet and no Billups, Thoughts? Keep up the good work! report abuse

1)the Blazers sre the dynasty of the future cause a)they have Brando who is the prototypical leader guard,b)the only real matchup Superman gonna have ,G.O., c)the steal of the draft (although he wont start till next season) in bayless and if they could pull a trade giving away a combination of their bench talent outlaw-webster-frye-joel-diogu-shavlik for a scoring sf that complements roy/aldridge's games and the franchise blue collar model citizen culture that they established the past 2 years,d) possibly the most promising coach of his generation who is generally perceived as the leader of this pack and a pretty traditional fanbase... report abuse
