Los Angeles Lakers Stumped by San Antonio Spurs’ Scoring

Kobe Bryant may be able to jump over Aston Martins and snake pools but he was not able to leap as high against the defending champions San Antonio Spurs. Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers fell to Tim Duncan’s Spurs in their third meeting in the Western Conference Finals. The Lakers were leading the series with a 2-0 lead but were stumped in Game 3. The final score was 103-84. It was a total bashing of the Lakers who just recently gave the Spurs a similar lopsided victory. As the Playoffs near the end, the Lakers and the Spurs are giving it all they have got to enter the NBA Finals.

There were high hopes for the Los Angeles Lakers as they came into the turf of San Antonio. Beating them twice in Hollywood, Kobe and his teammates know that they can put the hurt on the Spurs. However, they were in for a surprise as the San Antonio squad fired on all cylinders to grab the crucial win. As usual, Kobe was sizzling for the Lakers as he scored 30 points to go along with 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist. Although his stat line was impressive, Bryant also had 4 turnovers and was only held to one free throw attempt. This was unusual for Kobe who averages more than 10 free throw attempts during this year’s NBA Playoffs.

The other main man for the Lakers, Pau Gasol, was held to only 15 points by the San Antonio defense. Gasol was 7 out of 18 from the field and just had 5 rebounds. The only other player to score in double digits for the Lakers was Jordan Farmar, who had 10. The veteran Derek Fisher had 2 points out of 4 shot attempts. Lamar Odom was the premier rebound man for the Lakers as he grabbed 11 missed shots. He also had 6 assists to go along with 7 points. It was a very poor offensive night for the Lakers as they only outscored the Spurs in just one quarter.

Meanwhile, the Triple Threat of the Spurs was giving it all to have a decent Playoffs series. Leading the way off the bench was Argentinean sensation Manu Ginobili who had 30 points. He was deadly from the three-point area as he made 5 out of 7 attempts. Multiple MVP awardee Tim Duncan was also having a good game. He finished with 22 points and grabbed a game-high 21 rebounds. Duncan and Ginobili had great help from their super point guard Tony Parker, who scored 20 points while dishing out 5 assists. The Spurs outscored the Lakers from the 2nd up to the 4th quarter, 82 to 60.

Game 4 will be played once again in San Antonio and Kobe knows that, for them to win, he must take over the series. He must be willing to show his true MVP form and rub some of his passion on his teammates. The Lakers will be in a lot of trouble if they let the Spurs tie the series. Game 4 will be Kobe’s time to shine.
