Pierce, Garnett and Allen all in Green
Two months ago after the NBA draft lottery, Celtics fans were in shock. After years of mishaps and bad luck, 2007 was supposed to be the year of the Oden or Durant. But when they were handed the fifth pick, it seemed that the Celtics were cursed.
Then GM Danny Ainge traded that pick to receive Ray Allen and emotions changed to confusion sprinkled with intrigue. What about the youth movement? What about developing all this young talent into a contender down the road? The acquisition of Allen alone threw the Celtics into mediocrity for at least the next three seasons. |

David Beckham is a mega-star, and when he becomes a full-time midfielder for the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, he will have a higher Q Rating then the rest of his teammates combined. So in following this trend of jumping the pond to explore new endeavors within their respective sport, Stephon Marbury has announced that when his contract with the New York Knicks is up, he will take his game to Italy and finish his career.
While many may initially make little to no fuss of Marbury’s plans, it will be interesting to see if this actually happens, and if he can make waves in the Mediterranean country. |

1) Portland- Greg Oden, Ohio State- Surprise. The best center to be drafted since Shaq will instantly improve the Trail Blazers on both ends of the court. Oden, who at 19, still manages to look a lot like Morgan Freeman, is a sure-fire all star and might one day have a bronzed statue of himself in Springfield, MA.
2) Seattle- Kevin Durant, Texas- Anyone who questions Durant’s ability to succeed in the pros because he can’t bench 185 simply doesn’t understand basketball. Durant dominated all of last season. He can score inside and out, and proved to everyone he has no problem creating his own shots, or carrying 11 teammates and 1 Longhorn coaching staff on his back for five months. |

With Monday’s official deadline to declare or withdraw from the 2007 NBA Draft a day away, there are numerous prospects who may want to re-consider their immediate decision to test the professional waters.
Now, my commentary comes almost entirely on performance in last years college basketball season; I also consider if the player could return to a school that could contend next season. I have not attended any pre-draft camps, or read much ‘expert opinion’ and first-hand information from the camps.
Plus, of course, we all know I am far from an expert. |

After attending Sunday night’s Red Sox-Yankees game, I returned home to see Andy Katz smiling mug on SportsCenter reporting that Billy Donovan was having second thoughts on becoming the head coach of the Orlando Magic. The coach of the defending national title Florida Gators wanted to return to the school he was being hailed at, and wasn’t ready to deal with professional athletes. |
