While I am fully aware that what I am about to do (write a running diary) is essentially an attempt to emulate Bill Simmons of ESPN’s Page 2, I see it as the best way to describe the events that will transpire during the NBA Draft Lottery, and how I react to them. As a resident of New England and an avid Boston sports fan, I feel that these next 30 minutes will determine the fate of the next 10 years of the Boston Celtics franchise. This is so important that it took precedence over the Red Sox-Yankees game currently in progress. I will try to remain unbiased towards the whole Celtics angle, but it may be difficult.

8:30 So after an hour of pre-game coverage for game two between the Jazz and the Spurs, dabbled with Jay Bilas using up every descriptive cliché on the 2007 draft class, the attention is now given solely to the teams with the 14 worst records in the 2006-2007 season. Time for the Atlanta Hawks to receive more attention then they do all year. Just like the sun setting and rising, the Atlanta Hawks will be in the draft lottery.

Mark Jones describing how the process works is humorous to me. Do you think anybody really cares? I would imagine that 76ers fans could care less how this process goes down, just gimmie a wing-player that can become the cornerstone of the franchise for the next 10 years; ESPN is unbelievable at over hyping stories.

8:32 What do you think Greg Oden’s Monster.com resume looks like? Do you think he’s proficient in Microsoft Word? I wonder if Kevin Durant has enough previous work experience to step in to the ‘real world.’

8:33 PM Joe Litvin, random NBA executive, I’ve never seen you before and you look extremely nervous right now talking to a large crowd that we can’t see and probably isn’t even there. What a terribly staged moment. The producer that believed that was a good segway to a commercial break should be nervous about their job status.

8:37 PM Everytime I see David Stern on television, I feel like he’s keeping a secret— like he has so much more to say but would rather keep it to himself.
Sidenote—on the Robert Horry, Steve Nash altercation in the previous series, I have one thing to say: I understand suspending Stoudemire and Diaw a game for leaving the Suns bench area. Yes it’s a rule, and very easy to understand, but do you really think what they did was only half as worse as what Cheap Shot Rob did to Nash? No. Horry should have been suspended three games for what he did. San Antonio would of still advanced, but I just feel that laying a cheap shot on a two time MVP is far more severe then leaving a bench and the appropriate suspensions should have given.

8:43 PM Gotta love the introductions for those representing these franchises. What do they do? It just occurred to me that they should throw these guys in the octagon and whoever prevails would get the first pick. Larry Bird comes off as a dirty fighter, so I would put my money on him.

Mark Jones exclaims when Fred Whitfield, president of the Charlotte Bobcats “brought home Kwame Brown 2001” as a representative of the Washington Wizards. Um…I would have to disagree. He didn’t bring home anyone, instead he sat there in a nice suit and waited for the results— my great uncle could do that.

8:47 PM Adam Silver, just like Joe Litvin, I don’t know who you are and you look very nervous. I feel as though Tommy Heinsohn, representing the Celtics, senses this man’s increased heart rate and any pick lower then two for the C’s might result in Heinsohn lunging towards Silver in a fit of rage.

8:49 PM No surprises in the first 6 picks, no gasps and no violence…………………………..and then all of a sudden, without warning, New England is floored. Boston is given the 5th pick. They better cut to break because Heinsohn is about to do something terrible. WOW. I heard on the radio this morning that this franchise might need to re-locate if they don’t get pick one or two. I though the guy was crazy at the time, but he’s probably right.

Just like that, a bald guy with oversized ears implicitly announces that “with the 5th pick, the Boston Celtics will remain a mediocre team for the next 10 years, and all hope of returning to the glory days of the 1980’s will not be seen at the TD Banknorth Center for a long time.” This is not good.

8:53 PM I am speechless. Any thought of this draft being rigged can be completely thrown out the window and spat on. This does not bode well for the NBA either. Portland is a small market, Seattle may not even have an NBA team in the next two years; all of a sudden I am beginning to think the NBA should be rigged, basically so I can get my way.

8:56 PM Well I close this diary with complete anger. This is simply unjust. Back to the Red Sox-Yankees game, at least I have one team that is a winner.
