Weekly Review September 08, 08

Forgive my recent absence from this, AOL don't know what they are paid for, but I'm back so let's get to it.

Hall Of Fame:

The biggest news of the week is the induction of Hakeem Olujwon, Patrick Ewing, Adrian Dantley, Pat Riley, Bill Davidson, Dick Vitale and Cathy Rush into the hall of basketball fame. I don't really have much to offer on this subject, as I kind of used it all in a more detailed article that will be coming later in the week, but still a great congratulations the magnificent seven, well deserved and long overdue.

Rookie Blunder:

The news came that Mario Chalmers and Brandon Rush were thrown out of the rookie program after having women and possibly weed in their room. Again, I have another article on this coming, so I won't give too much away, but either way hopefully the next time they are in my weekly review is for something they do on the court.

Thunder Strikes:

Even though we've all known for weeks, the NBA decided to announce that the new Olkahoma City team will be named the Thunder, and thus a new franchise is born. My feelings on the move from Seattle are well-known as being on the negative side, but that's to do with management, not the players themselves, and as it happensIi think Seattle did very well in the draft and might be one of the more interesting underdog teams (kind of like Portland last year, without the winning streak), I think Kevin Durant will develop and become more comfortable and Russell Westbrook is one of my two favourite guards in this year's class (guesses for who is the other?)

Spurs not so sure:

After Manu Ginobili sustained a nasty looking ankle injury while carrying Argentina during the olympics (he really was amazing in the tournament, he looked unstoppable), it appears to have affected his potential deal with the San Antonio Spurs. Apprently the Spurs were already trying to persuade Ginobili to sit out the olympics as he had already injured the ankle in the first-round series with the Suns this year. Ginobili decided to still play however, and I heartily support this move. Manu will now have to undergo surgery and as always, there is a risk. It seems quite a few people believe that Manu is not going to be his former self post-surgery, and the Spurs are among these people. "It's the same as it was two months ago, when they did the first [MRI] exam," Ginobili said. "It's not worse, which is important. Now, the thing is, it's not better either, and it seems like the only way to repair it completely is arthroscopic surgery."

Worried Warriors:

On Wednesday, Monta Ellis underwent surgery on the ankle injury that now appears to be sustained by "non-basketball related activities". It has been announced that he won't return to the court until a month into the season at least. Unfortunately, this is almost a repeat of last year's beginnings, when Stephen Jackson showed just how valuable he was to the Warriors, missing the first 7 games of which the Warriors lost 6. If this had been just slightly different, they probably would have made the playoffs. So again the Warriors will begin the season running up hill. Things are very different in the bay this year, and Ellis is definitly their first scoring option, though I do disagree that he will carry the franchise, the Warriors got by because they had such a balanced attack and various different options, something that is recurrent with Nellie's teams, and i hope this is not stopped and that everything is not placed upon Ellis' shoulders.

Training Camp is edging closer and closer.
