Sunday night Game 5 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the NBA finals was one win away from the Boston Celtics snatching their 17th championship banner away from the hated Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant, but even though everyone was counting out the Western Conference champs the Lakers prevailed and have now gotten the series to a 3-2 Boston lead on their way back to beantown. |

It is that time of year again where everyone and their mother tries to pick who will be the chosen one in the up coming NBA draft. Who will be the player the Chicago Bulls pick at #1 to get their franchise back to a title contender in the East? Michael Beasley or Derrick Rose? Will Miami get a player to make the Heat a triple threat with Marion and Wade?
Some many questions, so little time, one thing is for certain, this draft show cases some of the most talented players we have seen in a long time. From top to bottom this year’s NBA draft has play makers and game changers to instant impact players, the boys that get drafted this year may certainly change the face of the NBA in the years to come. |

It is that time again, time to see which team gets the future superstar stud and which team drops the ball and ends up with the next Kwame Brown. With yesterday’s NBA Draft Lottery behind us we now have a good idea of who is going where and what changes can these young players make to the struggling NBA franchises with the top picks.

In every sport you will always find heated rivalries, in the Major League Baseball you have the Boston Red Sox against the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers versus the San Francisco Giants. In the NFL there is the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts, the classic QB showdown of Peyton Manning versus Tom Brady, but when it comes to the NBA there are only a few rivalries that stand the test of time.

In this season’s usual NBA playoffs which has been completely dominated by teams with home court advantage and road wins are seemingly near impossible to pull off, the Los Angeles Lakers have managed to advance to the Western conference for the first time since 2004 as a result of knocking out the a very tough Utah Jazz team in their house.

Throughout NBA history, teams have gone through series of change, one year a team maybe the cream of the crop, the favorite for the NBA title or just obviously one of the best teams in the league and it may stay that way for the foreseeable future, but unfortunately, it all must end at some point. Players get old, franchises fall apart (Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks), and general managers go from genius status to the hot seat.

In every sport whether it be football, baseball, soccer or basketball, every player loves to play at home. Everyone in the stadium or arena cheering just for you and booing the other team off the court, being so loud that the visiting team finds it hard to think, react or just play their game. This has been no more apparent then for whatever team steps foot into the Utah Jazz’s house at the Energy Solutions Center.

All throughout NBA history there have been supposed “underrated” players or “overpaid” players, if you ask me the only basketball player that ever really deserved his huge contracts was Michael Jordan who was like a guaranteed championship and unlimited revenue when he played in Chicago, but that is beside the point, there probably won’t be another MJ (maybe Kobe). That fact is in professional sports millions and millions of dollars gets thrown around at a ridiculous rate and few players are really worth their price tag.

Every era in NBA basketball has had players that literally define the meaning of basketball excellence and perfection from the beginning of professional basketball with the late great George Mikan of the Minneapolis Lakers who won the MVP in 1953 and dominated the NBA winning 5 NBA titles in a row in the late 40s to the early 50s to Wilt Chamberlain who completely changed the face of NBA basketball and the way the game was played and still holds the record for most points in a game with 100. Not only did Wilt the Stilt change the game he also dominated the league much like Mikan did winning two NBA championships and four MVP awards in his career.

First off lets take a second to acknowledge Kobe Bryant for finally winning the NBA’s MVP award, if Kobe hadn’t won the award this season or any season after for that matter he would have gone down in NBA history as the best player never to win the award, but finally the NBA felt it was time to give him the award instead of players like Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki who continue to be terrible playoff performers and underachievers. Much props to this season’s Most Valuable Player, Kobe Bryant!
