![]() It is that time again, time to see which team gets the future superstar stud and which team drops the ball and ends up with the next Kwame Brown. With yesterday’s NBA Draft Lottery behind us we now have a good idea of who is going where and what changes can these young players make to the struggling NBA franchises with the top picks.
It seems every year players that get drafted in the NBA draft are younger and younger, with only one year’s experience on the college basketball level. This year’s NBA Draft is no different as most of the top prospects are freshman like USC’s stud freshman OJ Mayo, Indiana’s scoring machine Eric Gordon, Kansas State’s phenom Michael Beasley and UCLA’s verstitale big man Kevin Love.In recent years many have debated whether or not these kids with only one year of Division 1 college ball experience under their belt or players straight out of high school can really play at the next level in the NBA. Some say the lack of experience is the downfall or their lack of maturity as an adult and a basketball player is the problem, none the less the college game is turning into a one and done experience. Although I agree that you should play at least two years of college basketball before you come to the pros I would be lying to say that the top 10 players to get picked up in this draft aren’t amazing ball players and totally ready to take on the next level of competition, especially Memphis point guard Derrick Rose and Kansas State power forward Michael Beasley. These two kids are phenomenal athletes! Both Beasley and Rose are born leaders on the basketball court with the total package in terms of their positions. Derrick Rose is the perfect point guard with superb passing ability and a knack for scoring that only few point guards possess, he gets you what you need when you need it. Rose is the perfect example of how the point guard position is evolving in the NBA with comparisons to the likes of NBA superstars Chris Paul and Deron Williams. The kid has a good jumper and he is a game changer in the way he can take over a game when needed much like Chris Paul and Deron Williams, not to mention he is from Chicago, born and raised. Is it what the Chicago Bulls need? No, Rose is an awesome addition to any team, but the Bulls need an inside presence after trading Ben Wallace to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Some are saying that if Chicago Bulls GM John Paxon goes after the Memphis guard then Kirk Hinrich will move to the two spot, this maybe a good move, but I don’t think Hinrich can make the transition and therefore should either trade Kirk or go after Beasley. Michael Beasley is a beast! He is a monster on the boards and can put 30 points on any given night. Beasley’s stats while playing in his only season for Kansas State are extremely impressive, the guy can do virtually anything on the basketball court: scoring (26.2 ppg, 53% FGs), rebounding (12.4), shot blocking (1.6), steals (1.3) and 3 point shooting (37.9%) much like Derrick Rose, he is total package at his position. Who knows what Paxson is planning on doing, pick Rose or Beasley maybe he might try to pull off a trade, but one thing is for certain, the Bulls should be a much improved team after this draft. I say go for a Michael Beasley, with guards like Ben Gordon and Kirk Hinrich you don’t need to improve the guard position and with there being more talented big men in the NBA lately like Yao Ming, Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum and Greg Oden the Bulls might want to think about beefing up their lineup instead of going small.
