Brown Joins MJ, Bobcats

The NBA has had its share of charismatic coaches with crazy personalities or unusual habits, but there are only a few that have become legends and the new coach of the Charlotte Bobcats, Larry Brown is just that!

By far the best move Bobcats president and basketball God Michael Jordan has made since he joined Charlotte a few seasons ago. The Bobcats are a talented team with a lot of promise, but they just haven’t been able to make anything happen and being in the Eastern Conference, that is pretty bad.

MJ’s resume as a member of a NBA franchise’s front offices is nothing short of terrible with unforgettable moves like picking Kwame Brown first overall in the 2001 NBA Draft and producing losing seasons every season for both the Washington Wizards and the Charlotte Bobcats. Even though MJ will probably never live down the Kwame pick you have to give Jordan his props for going out and grabbing a fellow Tar Heel like Larry Brown who was the best possible coach at the time.

Larry Brown has the golden touch, every single franchise that he has been apart of has become a winner, well, except for the Knicks, he is a great coach, but he isn’t a miracle worker. He has coached 9 different NBA franchises; more than any other coach in NBA history. Now if that were any other coach would think maybe it is time to pack it in because you can’t hold down a job, but in Brown’s case, he has taken every single franchise that he has coached into the playoffs. That is pretty impressive, especially if you look at the teams he has coached like the Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets and the Detroit Pistons. He turned all of these teams into winners, made the Clipps a playoff team, coach Iverson to the NBA Finals and won his first NBA championship with the underdog Pistons over a superstar starting five of the 2004 Los Angeles Lakers (Shaq, Kobe, Malone, Payton).

Even with Brown’s impressive NBA resume, he has had success in both the college game coaching the UCLA Bruins and the Kansas Jayhawks and the ABA with the Oakland Oaks in which he won the championship.

When you think of the best coaches in NBA history there are only a few names that come to mind, names like the great Red Auerbach who just won championship after championship after championship with Bill Russell and the Boston Celtics. Then you have Phil Jackson who coached some of the best players to ever play like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan in which he has won 9 championships. And finally, there is Larry Brown, he has won the rings that these two have, but he had the ability to transform terrible teams into potential champions. That is the very essence of coaching; teaching the game of basketball, making winners and Larry Brown is one of the best at doing just that.

He will have his hands full, there is no doubting that. The Bobcats, like I said before are a very young and talented teams with a lot of potential and I believe that Larry Brown is just what the doctor ordered to get a struggling franchise like the Cats back on track!
