Breaking News: Nuggets Acquire Renaldo Balkman And Cash

The Denver Nuggets have acquired SF/PF Renaldo Balkman and cash for PG Taurean Green, SG/SF Bobby Jones, and the second round pick Denver received in the Marcus Camby trade.

A scrappy rebounder, Balkman averaged 3.4 PPG and 3.3 RPG for the New York Knicks during the 2007-08 season.

Renaldo's style of play is similar to that of Ronny Turiaf; a high energy-high emotional player who makes up for his lack of size (6'8") with intensity, hustle, and unbelievable passion.

Balkman replaces the hole left by defective Nuggets and current New Jersey F Eduardo Najera and will be an active member of the rebuilding phase in Denver, with his contract valid until 2010.

A surprisingly good move by Nuggets President Mark Warkentien in effort to lower player personnel costs and still provide quality talent.

Balkman’s salary is $1.28 million and Green and Jones salaries combined are worth roughly $2 million. Also Denver obtained a bonus $1-2 million as part of the deal.

The Nuggets frontcourt now looks like this:

PF/C Chris Andersen

SF/PF Renaldo Balkman

PF/C Nene

PF Kenyon Martin

The newly acquired Balkman's best performance came against the Portland Trail Blazers in which he had a season high 11 points, 10 rebounds (7 offensive), and 2 blocks.
